Social Media Guide for Hotels

I talk to a lot of hotels and most of them ask me, Do we really need to explore Social Media?

So when I started working on this guide, my first goal was to find facts to convince you, a hotelier to start taking social media seriously while marketing your hotel.

Over 1 Billion

People are using social networks

You can argue that people just gossip. Well social media users under age 35 follow their online friends’ product and service recommendations.

You can also argue that only youngsters are on Social Media right? Guess what Social media has reached middle age(d). The fastest growing segment of social media users is now adults aged 45-54. 55% of this age group now have a profile on at least one social network.

Over 93%

of marketers are using social media for business

There’s a reason they must be there, right?

Social media has a 100% higher lead-to-close rate than direct outbound marketing. 80% of US social network users prefer to connect to brands through Facebook.

I can keep going on with statistics. You’ll find 1000’s of statistics online to tell you that social media is important but those are just the results.

Why is Social Media really important?

Social Media is not about facts and numbers. It’s about being human and interacting with people.

TripAdvisor is important for your hotel, right? Why is that?

It’s is because your prospective customers go there to read reviews about your hotel from people and Better Reviews = More Bookings

Why are better reviews = more bookings? It’s because people trust other people thoughts more than the trust the hotel itself. Do you know who people trust more than the just random people who write reviews on TripAdvisor?

Their Friends and Family.

Isn’t that obvious, I’d take my friends opinions about hotels over the opinion of people I don’t know any day. That’s where social media comes in.

People talk about brands on Social Media. Those people are other people’s friends. Social Media is an extension of our face-to-face interactions.

It’s word of mouth on the internet.

And word of mouth is the best form of marketing. Period.

Social Media helps you control that word of mouth online by being part of the conversation.

Let’s control the conversation, get your hotel better word of mouth online and let your hotel embrace the power of social media.
